The Rev. Dr. Kurt Gerhard became the Eighth Rector of St. Patrick's in April of 2010. Prior to his ministry here, he served churches and schools in Lincoln, Nebraska and Austin, Texas. After graduating from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kurt earned a M.Div. from the Seminary of the Southwest and a D.Min. in Educational Leadership from the Virginia Theological Seminary. His culminating project focused on adolescents planning and leading worship at Episcopal Schools. As the Rector, he chairs the Vestry, oversees the ministries of St. Patrick's, leads worship, and provides pastoral support. He also serves ex-oficio on the St. Patrick's Day School Board. On the Diocesan level, Kurt has served on the Diocesan Council and currently serves on the Commission on Ministry and the Convention Resolutions Committee. He appreciates St. Patrick's people because they "love each other like family."

When he is not at St. Patrick's, Kurt spends time with his wife, Dr. Jennifer Lee Gerhard, and their two cats. He is an avid reader and golfer. Please contact Kurt if you are interested in learning more about St. Patrick's.

Assistant to the Rector/Day School Chaplain

Jenifer Gamber joined the St. Patrick’s community in July 2018 as Chaplain to the Day School and Assistant to the Rector. Jenifer graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary in May 2018 and will be ordained in November 2018. Prior to seminary, Jenifer served as the Director of Christian Formation at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Trexlertown, PA. She is the author of several books about faith, has spoken widely on Christian formation and spirituality of teens, and has led retreats for women and adults who work with youth throughout the Episcopal Church. As Day School Chaplain, Jenifer provides pastoral care to students and their families as well as faculty, leads weekly chapels, and teaches religion. At the Church, Jenifer preaches, teaches and contributes to liturgical leadership. 

She and her husband, Ed, have two adult children. Jenifer appreciates the spirit of love, generosity and welcome of the people at St. Patrick’s. In her free time, Jenifer enjoys baking bread and pies, reading, and walking her West Highland Terrier. She and her husband live in the hopping H-Street corridor of Washington, DC where they enjoy  the choice of more than two dozen ethnic restaurants any night of the week.

Dr. Adele Lynch has been the Director of Music for St. Patrick’s since 1995.  She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore and Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. In her service to St. Patrick’s she provides organ and piano music for weekly worship services, as well as seasonal/festival services and special musical events, conducts choral and instrumental ensembles for both children and adults, and arranges for guest instrumentalists and singers who provide additional music throughout the year.  Adele thoroughly enjoys the unique musical opportunities and the warm and generous spirit present at St. Patrick’s, and deeply appreciates all the incredible people who together help make “Music at St. Patrick’s” possible.  Please contact Adele about participating in the music ministries at St. Patrick's.

Karen Melchar has been Parish Administrator since January 2008. She graduated from Penn State with a B.A. in English in 1986, and since then has managed a bookstore, covered tax and business issues as a legislative assistant working in the private sector, and been a stay-at-home mom. As Parish Administrator, Karen manages the front office:  producing publications; organizing volunteers for services, outreach programs, and special events; acting as a liaison to the Day School faculty and staff; providing administrative support to the clergy and vestry; and greeting the many people who come through the church doors.
