Acolytes
The word Acolyte comes from the Greek word "to follow, to accompany, to escort." Thus an Acolyte is an attendant or a helper. Acolytes at St. Patrick's continue in their traditional role in the Church by assisting the priests in leading the worship of the congregation. The Acolytes are responsible for helping to set the tone of the service, and participating in worship and prayers of the congregation. The Acolyte Committee was commissioned in September of 2003 in order to recruit, train and organize acolytes for the parish. Peter Jobusch, along with seminarians, has periodically held training sessions to orient novice acolytes to their new duties. In addition, the more experienced acolytes are trained to perform the ministry of server. An Acolyte handbook was developed to provide an overview and guide to this very important ministry. Anyone interested in participating in this ministry is encouraged to contact Kathleen Black by email at Q7_hockey@yahoo.com or by phone at 301.229.0104.
