This Week at St. Patrick's April 3, 2019

Posted by The Rev. Dr. Kurt Gerhard on

From the Rector

Grace and peace. We are more than half way through Lent. Lent is a season to discern what life is worth. What is worth dying for? What is worth living for? Amy-Jill Levine writes that Lent is about “inviting inward transformation and then outward action.” The next two weekends, we will have opportunities to engage in service to the community. This weekend is the Rummage Sale and on April 13 is Service Saturday and Courtyard Keepers (see below). I hope that you will gather with your St. Patrick’s family for these important community efforts.

Now that Lent is concluding, we are also preparing for Holy Week. Mark your calendar for services at St. Patrick’s:

Maundy Thursday– Join us for a light meal in the Great Hall as we commemorate Jesus’ last supper with his disciples with singing, prayers, and readings around the dinner tables. During the service, you may choose to participate in the foot washing, and we will celebrate the final Holy Eucharist before Easter. This is a great service for families of all ages. Dinner is served.  April 18 at 6:30pm
Good Friday– The traditional service marking the time and day of Jesus’ crucifixion. This is a solemn service with the reading of the Passion and a sermon. April 19 at noon
Good Friday for Children– Holy Week can be confusing for children, so we offer an hour-long workshop with activities to help children (Grade 5 and under) better understand the events leading to Jesus’ death. We encourage parents or guardians to join their children for this journey through Holy Week which is a great way to prepare together for Easter. April 19 at 4:30pm
Stations of the Cross– Follow the cross around the St. Patrick’s campus as we remember Jesus’ path through Jerusalem as he carried the cross to Golgotha, the place of the crucifixion. Along the way, stop to hear reflections and music. April 19 at 7:30pm

Easter Egg Hiding Party - St. Patrick's youth are invited to a party to hide the Eggs for the Sunday Easter Egg Hunt. There will also be a pizza party with egg dyeing the the Great Hall. Friends and family are welcome to join. RSVP to  April 20 at 5:30pm
Easter Sunday– Join us for a festive celebration of Jesus’ resurrection with Holy Eucharist, special music, beautiful flowers, and a spirit of love and joy. After the service, stay for some amazing snacks, conversation, and an Easter Egg Hunt for children (Grade 5 and younger). April 21 at 10am
