Grace and peace to you. This week we draw to a close our 10-week adventure through the waters of baptism as well as my time with you as the primary priest for St. Patrick’s while the Rev. Kurt Gerhard has been on sabbatical. It has been a true pleasure to join the gifted staff and vestry in that role as we walked together in faith as a community. A special thank you to Lalie Tongour, Senior Warden extraordinaire.
Over the summer we gathered for regular weekly worship, hosted a Samaritan Ministry partner dinner, marched in the Palisades Fourth of July parade, hosted the creation of “church-to-go” boxes for families after worship, cooked SOME meals, and gathered for food and book reads. Many brought Flat St. Pat along with them on trips both near and far away (take a look at the map in the hallway!). We prayed for one another through joys and sadness, illness and recovery and welcomed three new Christians in baptism!
The library has new carpeting and is now outfitted with new Godly Play shelving ready for the launch of the new program year. The staff continues to work hard to prepare for the launch of all the fall programs on September 8th. Mark your calendars! Who said summer is quiet? Surely not here at St. Patrick’s where the community cares deeply for one another and for the world throughout the year.
Starting August 19th, as my responsibilities at the school resume, I will be taking a two-week vacation from the church. Please extend a warm welcome to the Rev. Randy Wilkinson who will preach and preside on August 25 and September 1st. Kurt returns from his sabbatical on Tuesday, September 3rd.
This summer is a testament to the slogan, “it takes a village.” It has been a true joy to be with you as your Associate Rector and primary priest.
