“Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public.” – Cornel West
Grace and peace. I don’t have to tell you that things have changed in Washington over the past year. At times, it can be difficult to see what is truly important. In the sermon on Sunday, we explored the story of Jacob and his father-in-law Laban. You were quick to point out that this story reeks of injustice. The women are judged by their looks and they don’t have a voice in the marriage arrangements. I don’t believe this story is about God; it is about human nature. Human nature is about wielding power to maintain control. God’s way, on the other hand, is when all people have a voice in the solution, when everyone is held in mutual respect. When this happens, we find justice. That is why justice is always just beyond our reach, because we are always becoming aware of how the circle of our lives must be flung open to those who have slipped to the margins. I encourage you to let your voice be heard, and to watch carefully for ways to open the conversation with others. [Listen to Sunday's sermon]
