Grace and peace. Last Sunday, we began the season of Advent. It is one of expectation, but we spend most of it in frantic preparation for Christmas. I hope that you will take some time to relax and contemplate this first season of the Church year. One way to do that is to sign up for the Advent Word. Every day, they will send you a word with a short reflection one why it is important to our spiritual strength. The words so far have been Awaken, Journey, Gather, and Simplify. You can sign up at adventword.org.
On Sunday at 9am, John the Baptist will be our guest speaker. John is a key Advent character who is often overlooked. He will share his views about how to be simple. John has visited during Advent for the past several years. In the afternoon, we are offering a cookie baking social event from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Bring your mixer and a can-do attitude to make cookies from scratch. Take some of them home and others will be donated to SOME (So Others Might Eat).
On December 17, be ready to be busy making the holiday spirit come alive at St. Patrick’s. We will conclude our St. Philip’s food bag collection and delivery, will sing carols at Sibley’s Oasis with our PRAY youth group, and green the church for Christmas Eve.
I hope that you will commit yourself to the ministry of St. Patrick’s.
I mentioned last week that speakers from CASA would be here this coming Sunday. I thought it was Court Appointed Special Advocates. I was wrong. This week's presenters at 11:45am on Sunday are from CASA Maryland, an immigration advocacy group. See more information below.
