Grace and peace. Last week, I attended the Festival of Homiletics as part of my continuing education. I was thankful that it was held here in Washington because I was able to sleep in my own bed. One of the highlights was the Reclaiming Jesus procession from Thomas Circle to the White House on Thursday evening. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is a key leader in the movement (see video below). The goal of Reclaiming Jesus is to wrestle Jesus away from those who define Jesus as exclusionary or partisan by reconnecting with Jesus as an advocate of love and charity for all people. Beginning on July 22, Jenifer Gamber, our new Assistant to the Rector, and I will be offering a 6-week summer education series after the 10am service to introduce the Reclaiming Jesus core beliefs. Each weekly session will be 10 minutes with eight minutes of presentation followed by two minutes of Q&A. It is a great way to learn something new and still have time to enjoy the warm weather. I preached an introduction to this upcoming series this past Sunday [listen to the sermon].
I hope to see you this Sunday at the reception celebrating my upcoming nuptials.
