Kids

Children are important members of our community.

We believe families should worship together because that is how children learn the importance of faith and the power of community. We also believe that the message should be offered at a developmentally appropriate level. Over the past several years, we have been transforming our Sunday morning offerings to achieve these two goals.

We discovered that families in today's world have many demands on their time, so we combine our worship and Sunday School. Beginning in September and continuing through May, we offer a Sunday School service three Sundays a month at 9am. The service is focused on children. The message follows thematic lessons. The music and prayers are simple and concludes with the Holy Eucharist. The service lasts 45 minutes. At 9:45, the group is invited to participate in a service project or an artistic offering for 15 minutes while refreshments are served in the Great Hall.

A special weekly newsletter is sent out on Fridays that previews the offerings for Sunday and provides families with resources to continue the conversation at home. These resources include prayers, stories, and conversation starters. It also provides parents with an overview that helps them better understand their own faith tradition.

In addition to our Sunday formation and worship offerings, we also have special music programs for children in a variety of different age groupings.

Music in Motion (Kindergarten - Grade 2)

Action abounds as these children learn about music and the church through song. A related craft ties the lesson together and we finish with pizza dinner!

Periodic Fridays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm, and sharing a song in church the following Sunday, September-May

Please contact Dr. Adele Lynch for more information.

Jubilate Deo Choir (Grade 3 - Grade 6)

The “Deo” is for young persons grades 3-6 (see above). This incredible group of kids provides occasional special music on Sundays and participates in special events throughout the school year. This past year highlights (click on the title to see pictures!) included two mini-musicals, "Elijah! God's Faithful Prophet," on Nov. 8, and "The Sailor's Bible," on Feb. 27.

Our mini-musicals are a favorite project among our Jubilate Deo singers.  Check out some pictures from previous years!

Rehearsals are weekly by session, September – May

St. Patrick’s Peal

Our handbell groups are varied (One-Rehearsal Handbells, 7th/8th grade Classy...) and are open to Grade 5 through Adult.  Family “teams" are welcome to participate together. Music reading is not essential, though musical training happens as we rehearse.

Rehearsal is by session September – May.

Drum Corps and Youth Instrumentalists

Two beautiful Timpani are part of the collection of terrific instruments here at St. Patrick’s and young people from 5th – 12th grade are invited to join in the fun. Just schedule a Sunday and commit to a weekday rehearsal beforehand.

We also invite you to put those music lessons to work and share your talents with our parish and offer instrumental music during worship services. Let me know when you have something all polished up and ready to play!

Family Choir/Seraphim Choir

This lively group meets occasionally on Sunday morning throughout the year. We gather at 8:45 before the 9:00am or 10:00 before the 10:30am service for donuts, juice, hot chocolate and coffee, before rehearsing a simple contemporary anthem to assist in leading morning worship. It is open to all (from 1 – 92!) and provides an opportunity in music for those unable to commit to a weekly rehearsal.
