It is great to be a youth at St. Patrick's. St. Patrick's is a family-friendly community. We encourage youth to be active participants in the worship and service life of the community. Youth can be readers, altar servers, choir members, and after Confirmation they can serve as Eucharistic ministers.
SPY is our program for youth. We send SPY monthly emails to inform parents of what activities are coming up. They include service opportunities, community building activities, and formation programs.
The Classy is a Sunday evening program for youth in grade 7-8. It begins at 5:45 with a music rehearsal, St. Patrick's Peal (Bell Choir) or Cambiata Choir, with Dr. Adele Lynch. From 6:30-7:30, youth share a meal and discuss issues of faith with members of the clergy, seminarians, and other youth leaders. This year, the Classy will also be part of the preparation for Confirmation. Youth are encouraged to bring their friends who are interested in exploring faith.
Sunday evenings in sessions from 5:45-7:30pm
Youth Confirmation class will take place at St. Patrick's for high school age youth in the Spring for May Confirmation at Washington National Cathedral.
Please contact the Rev. Dr. Kurt Gerhard for more information.
There are great opportunities in music for kids in Grades 7 – 8. Incorporating both “singing and ringing,” we offer music in conjunction with "The Classy,” a Christian Formation session for this age group. As one of the the St. Patrick’s Peal handbell groups, these young people learn to work together in ringing our beautiful Schulmerich handbells. As the Cambiata Choir, our middle school youth learn to be expressive through the transition phase of vocal development.
Rehearsals are by session, September – May Sundays 5:45pm – 6:30pm
Our music offering for High School age young people, this great group adds “new light” to our Cantoris Choir periodically as they join for special anthems and events. (It also gives our very, very time-crunched older teens an opportunity to continue their singing at St. Patrick’s even in the midst of AP courses, sports marathons and college/job preparation.)
Rehearsals are periodic Sundays with the Cantoris Choir, September – May.
Two beautiful Timpani are part of the collection of terrific instruments here at St. Patrick’s and young people from 5th – 12th grade are invited to join in the fun. Just schedule a Sunday and commit to a weekday rehearsal beforehand.
We also invite you to put those music lessons to work and share your talents with our parish and offer instrumental music during worship services. Let me know when you have something all polished up and ready to play!
Please contact Dr. Adele Lynch for more information.
