Samaritan Ministry
Our partnership with Samaritan Ministry, now two years old, is gradually becoming stronger. This past year, in addition to our modest Partnership Pledge, the parish has been able to give financial help through: our Mite Boxes, participation in the annual Fall Walkathon for the Homeless, and attendance at Samaritan’s Spring Gala, held at Saint Patrick’s.
There has also been an increase in parishioner involvement with this fine organization which helps homeless and other people take Next Steps to improve their lives. Ed Quick volunteers one morning a week as the Front Office Coordinator at the northwest office at 16th and Hamilton Sts. Carolyn Donnelly also works one morning a week organizing and updating the Interview Clothes Closet at the same location. Mary Margaret Smith has been mentoring the Director of Development, and more recently has been coordinating the upcoming Gala with the Fundraising Committee chair. Carla Durney is exploring volunteer opportunities with the Director, which it is hoped will come to fruition soon. Martha Johnson is looking into ways of working in the near future in an afterschool program with the children of residents of Partner Arms, a transitional housing complex connected to Samaritan Ministry. Peggy Beers serves on the Fundraising Committee of the Board, and is St Patrick’s Partner Parish Representative. The Parish’s most significant human contribution to the life and health of SMGW is Chuck James who recently accepted a position as Director of Volunteers and Communications.
