Anacostia Committee
“So that’s where the food ends up!” Ian Malone and Clinton James spoke those words as they were helping stock the Food Pantry shelves at St. Philip’s in Anacostia at Christmas time. They, along with Tim Malone, Mariah James, Chuck James, the Rev. Paula Green, and Francisco Iglesias, had just helped deliver the Christmas food bags—a new record of 104!—to St. Philip’s. The people of St. Patrick’s, like Phoebe and Clare Schmidt, Elaine Fickenscher, and Ele Carpenter, do good works with their gifts of food, particularly at the Sunday services, and clothing all through the year yet we don’t always know “where they end up.” They end up on shelves and clothing racks at St. Philip’s and they fill a true and constant need for the needy individuals and families in the Anacostia community served by St. Philip’s. In addition to the annual Christmas food drive, there will be additional opportunities for the St. Patrick’s – St. Philip’s partnership. Working with the St. Philip’s Child Development Center , enjoying choir and pulpit exchanges are just two examples. We will be meeting with their leadership to explore ways where we can best serve and support their efforts.
