Grace and peace. Over the past several weeks, we have set up a new way to be a church without gathering at our building on Sunday. We have evening services on Thursday and Sunday, a class on Tuesday night, our regular Bible study and Healing service on Wednesday morning, and our Sunday morning service on Facebook Live from the nave. There have already been over 250 views of the Sunday morning service. If you missed it, you can watch it from our website or on YouTube. The Vestry has been reaching out, too, to check on our church family. I feel that we are working hard to take a challenging time and make it a blessing for deepening our connections with each other.
The next big challenge for us is maintaining our payroll and expenses over the next several months. Most of our income happens by check collected on Sundays or sent through the mail. Right now, those methods are not possible. I hope that you will consider supporting St. Patrick’s with online giving. You can do this directly from your bank account (which has the fewest fees) or by credit card. We really need your support right now.
There are many ways to be engaged in growing in spirit during this time. I encourage you to take some of the time you are spending socially distancing to deepen your spiritual life. There are a few options. We have prayer services and classes meeting regularly (see schedule on our events page). There is also a way to read scripture over the next two weeks to follow Jesus to the Resurrection (check the reading list online). I also would be glad to meet with you by phone or Zoom to talk about ways to deepen your spiritual life.
I also encourage you to make a sacred space in your home. Here is an article that provides suggestions on how to create such a place. I have taken a picture of the one in our home. It includes the Crown of Thorns from Easter 2018, a prayer book, two bibles, a couple of candles, and a cross. It is sitting on top of a dresser, near a window. I hope that you will send me a picture of your sacred space by next Tuesday so that we can create a picture collage to show the diversity of our sacred spaces from across the parish.
