Meet Our Rector!
The Rev. Andrew Ogletree joined our parish June 5, 2023. He finished his service as Interim Associate Rector at Grace Episcopal Church in Silver Spring in May. He previously served for more than a year as Lay Pastoral Associate at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Riverside Connecticut, while he was negotiating the surprisingly complex process of moving from the diocese of Connecticut to the diocese of Washington. Andrew graduated with a M.Div. in Theological Studies from the Berkeley Seminary at Yale Divinity School in 2021, where he also earned a Diploma of Anglican Studies and a Certificate from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
Andrew grew up in Fairfield, CT where he attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and was active in choirs and the youth group. He received his undergraduate degree in Art History, with honours, from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where he was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Before beginning seminary, Andrew lived in New York City for 13 years where he was a member of the Church of the Heavenly Rest and was actively involved in outreach, arts, and youth ministries, as well as stewardship. He worked for Sotheby’s for nearly ten years, specializing in English and European decorative arts, was a senior executive at Mallet & Sons Antiques, and launched and continued to operate his own art and antiques business while attending seminary. Andrew now lives with his husband Travis in the Kalorama neighborhood, and he loves to host dinner parties, read and go to museums, gardens and concerts.
In his ministry, Andrew tries to listen and identify the gifts others bring, encouraging them to develop and share their ministries in the congregation and out into the world. He believes in preparing the church for the future by engaging with the present intentionally through listening and relationship building, identifying the needs of our moment, and discerning what God is calling us to be and do now—which allows us to see the abundance of gifts that God provides and make decisions from a place of faith, rather than fear.
