We believe children learn the importance of faith and the power of community by worshiping with their families. We also believe that the message should be offered at a developmentally appropriate level. Over the past several years, we have been transforming our Sunday morning offerings to achieve these two goals.
Because families in today’s world have many demands on their time, so we combine our worship and Sunday School. Beginning in September and continuing through May, we offer an innovative Sunday School program called “Godly Play” in which children explore the stories of our faith based on the Montessori method of teaching and learning. Children begin in the worship service with their parents and process out at the Song of Praise to our Church Library for the Godly Play lesson of the day. They return at The Peace to share Communion with their families.
In addition to our Sunday formation and worship offerings, we also have special music programs for children (below). For more information about the children’s programs, contact Dr. Adele Lynch. And check out all of our music programs!
Action abounds as these children learn about music and the church through song. A related craft ties the lesson together and we finish with pizza dinner!
Periodic Fridays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm, and often sharing a song in church the following Sunday, September – May.
The “Deo” is for young persons grades 3-6. This incredible group of kids provides occasional special music on Sundays and participates in special events throughout the school year including mini-musicals, a favorite project among our Jubilate Deo singers.
Highlights from this past year included two mini-musicals, “A St. Patrick’s Christmas Carol” and “A Not So Terrible Parable”. Rehearsals are weekly by session, September – May.
This lively group meets occasionally on Sunday morning throughout the year. We gather at 9:15 before the 10:00am service for donuts, juice, hot chocolate, and coffee before rehearsing a simple contemporary anthem to assist in leading morning worship. It is open to all (from 1 – 92!) and provides an opportunity in music for those unable to commit to a weekly rehearsal.
