Frequently Asked Questions

Sundays at 10 am. This is a multigenerational worship service with Eucharist and various musical styles. Although it is a traditional Rite II service following the Book of Common Prayer, we are a community of laid-back people. Parishioners of all ages are welcome.
St. Patrick’s is located at 4700 Whitehaven Parkway NW in the Palisades neighborhood of Washington, DC, its home since 1911. Our neighbors include the Lab School, the German Embassy, and the Mount Vernon Campus of George Washington University.
Services are also live-streamed on our YouTube page (no account necessary) and posted following service.
Children are always welcome at St. Patrick’s, and are an important part of our congregation. Children begin the service with their parents and process out at the Song of Praise for our Sunday School program called “Godly Play”. They return at The Peace to share Communion with their families.
We have other offerings for youth on Sunday evenings and at monthly events throughout the year, including preparation for Confirmation for 7th and 8th graders.
We believe in the healing power of Jesus that is grounded in love. We attempt to make that love a reality in today’s world through gathering and building a supportive community that serves others. We feel particularly called to serve children, a commitment expressed through our Day School and parish programs.
On Sundays, parking is available in the parking lot east of the building, in the diagonal spots extending up the hill to Foxhall Road, and on the street. St. Patrick’s has plenty of parking that is accessible without steps.
Our Sunday morning Eucharist at 10 am includes congregational singing, choral anthems, and instrumental offerings throughout the year. Various choirs offer anthems September through May. Our music program provides an opportunity for all ages to participate and help enrich the life of our St. Patrick’s community.
We also offer concerts, recitals, and other events that engage our music participants and offer fun and fellowship to our community throughout the year.
We are very laid back at St. Patrick’s. Some people dress up, others are wearing shorts. Dress in what makes you comfortable and come as you are!
We want to know your name, so expect to be greeted when you arrive, when we pass the peace during worship, and after worship during the fellowship time in the Great Hall. On every visit, we hope you are moved by the Spirit in some way – by the variety of music, the sermon, the prayers, the community, or by all of them!
Every Sunday, we celebrate the Holy Eucharist (Communion), the sacrament that Jesus instructed his disciples to celebrate in remembrance of his life, death, and resurrection. It is meal of bread and wine that unites us in a common mission.
God loves everyone and would never turn anyone away from the communal table. So we encourage everyone to receive Communion if they feel called to do so, or receive a blessing by crossing your arms in front of your chest. Gluten free bread is available for those with allergies.
Simply come! If you would like, please let one of our ushers know that this is your first time at St. Patrick’s. They will help you get situated and will answer any questions you might have.
Please sign the welcome book and pick up a packet of information about St. Patrick’s. After the worship service, stick around for a few minutes for our coffee hour and meet members of our community and learn more about our ministries.
