Grace and peace. You might tell someone that they are not acting their age. That is because age doesn’t really capture the heart of a person. There are some 10-year old’s who could function in the world of a 40-year-old and there are some 40-year old’s who live like a 10-year-old. 95-year-old Dick Van Dyke, who was interviewed in conjunction with a recent Kennedy Center Honor, said that he would never retire. He couldn’t wait to get back on the stage or the screen. He was certainly not acting his age. There is something spiritual about living life with verve in a way that transcends time.
Nancy Gordon lived a life that spanned nearly 100 years. No matter where she was or who she encountered, she exuded a spirit of curiosity and joy. She was willing to roll with the changes and the transitions that were happening around her and that allowed her to build relationships across generations. Nancy died in April after a short illness. This week, we will celebrate her amazing life here at St. Patrick’s, her parish church for over 60 years, and she will be interred in the columbarium with her husband Bob who died 20 years ago. I hope you will join us for the celebration either online (below) or in-person on Friday, June 25 at 10am.
And always remember that living your life afresh with spirit and with an openness for new ways and people will bring you joy and love. That is the gift that Nancy perfected and shared with us all.
Faithfully,
